Johnathon Banks NABO Cruiserweight Champ from Ecorse, Michigan came in at exactly 200 lbs with a record of 17/0 13KO's against Derrick Brown of NY, NY 13/3 11 KO's and 197 lbs. It took the champ all twelve rounds to defend his title in a fight where Brown went down once in the 8th round. Brown looked tired and as if the powerful Banks was wearing him when he went to the wrong corner in the 9th round, however he came back for the last two rounds with energy and the fight went the distance. The judges scores were:
Gerard White 118-108, Ted Gimza 119-107, and Jerry Jakubco 117-109. The referee was Ron Cunningham. |
Andy Lee, Lemirick, IE (12-0 9kos) 160lbs made short work of Marcus Thomas, Barbados, (10-2 4kos) 162 kbs in a bout that ended at 1:13 in the first round. After taking a shot to the temple, Thomas went down. Lee quickly came back with a hard left to the eye area and Thomas went down to end the match in a KO.
After the match a very happy Lee quoted Dempsey saying 'the sooner the safer.' The referee was Ansel Stewart. |
Three of Emanuel Steward's best fighters took the ring in the pro-card recently at Plymouth Whalers' Compuware Arena. Jason Cintron of Reading, Pa. at 140.5 lbs. (6/0 1KO) went the full six rounds with Chris Hill of Kansas City , MO. (4/12/1 2ko) at 141 lbs. While the fight was full of energy Hill took a whipping in going the distance. A unanimous decision all three judges scoring 60/54. The referee was Ansel Stewart. |
